With over 18 million people, India has the world’s largest diaspora. Whilst the US and the UAE used to be the main destinations for labour migration, Germany is now gaining significant importance. A migration agreement signed in 2022 underscores this partnership: for the German government, India is now one of the most important source countries for meeting its demand for skilled professionals.
Huge potential for experts
Interest in training and work in Germany is high: as early as 2022, 26,000 Indian graduates came to Germany under the ‘Blue Card’ scheme. In addition to IT and digital experts, skilled professionals from the healthcare sector and engineering disciplines are particularly in demand.
Political support
The Indian government actively supports this initiative through the National Skill Development Council International, which makes Indian qualifications internationally comparable. Furthermore, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK India/IGCC) acts as a central interface. It connects universities, public authorities and companies to successfully place skilled professionals in the German labour market.
Services offered by ProRecognition and AHK India
Through the ProRecognition project, AHK India offers professional support with the recognition of Indian qualifications. From initial guidance through to final placement, the AHK network helps both Indian professionals and German employers to overcome bureaucratic hurdles.
