Labour migration is of central importance to Egypt. Whilst the Gulf states used to be the main destination, young Egyptians are now increasingly drawn to Germany. Key factors driving this trend include the high quality of life, career prospects and social security.
Skills and government support
Egypt has a large pool of skilled professionals, particularly in the fields of engineering, care and healthcare. The Egyptian government provides targeted support for mobility, for example through German language courses alongside studies and special training programmes for the German labour market.
Strong networks and educational partnerships
Cooperation between the two countries is characterised by a dense network of German schools abroad, universities and the Goethe-Institut. The German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Egypt) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit actively support skilled professionals in labour migration to Germany, as well as companies in their recruitment efforts.
Success stories in practice
Since 2016, AHK Egypt has been offering free consultations through the ProRecognition project to help foreign professional qualifications gain official recognition, thereby increasing job opportunities.
