Colombia is becoming increasingly important for the German economy. The country stands out for its young, mobile population and strong educational system, particularly through the technical training organisation SENA. In the face of economic challenges, many well-educated Colombians are actively seeking career opportunities in Germany, a move that is also supported by the Colombian government at a policy level.
Targeted recruitment through the “TEAM” project
A successful example of this cooperation is the “TEAM” project. Since 2021, the Federal Employment Agency has been using it to place electronics technicians and gardeners in Germany. In cooperation with local authorities and language schools, this creates fair and structured pathways to support German companies in shortage occupations (e.g. technical professions).
Strong local networks
The German-Colombian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Colombia) forms the hub of a strong network that also includes the Goethe-Institut, the German Embassy and SENA. This close cooperation not only facilitates professional mobility but also ensures the quality of training and the subsequent recognition of qualifications in Germany.
ProRecognition Brazil: Hub for the Andean region
The ProRecognition advisory centre in Colombia has developed into a regional hub. From here, advice is provided not only to Colombian, but also to Chilean, Peruvian, Venezuelan and Ecuadorian skilled professionals. This regional coordination raises awareness of legal pathways for labour migration to Germany and makes the recognition process more efficient for the entire Spanish-speaking region.
